A Call to Ministry

God has ordained for us a special ministry in Christ. When you do not play your role assigned to you by God, there exists a lacking space in the body of Christ, and the furthering of the desired purpose of God is curtailed.

Some of us are the hands of the body of Christ: we mold, smoothen, and create. Some of us are also the legs: we stand, walk, and run. Others are also the eyes: they discern, see, and foresee things to come. Again, others are the mouth: they speak, encourage, and prophesy. There are many parts of the body of Christ, and God has placed us perfectly where we belong according to his own will, for the equipping of one another.

In Ephesians 4:11-12 we get to know where we belong. “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

We have different offices but one body

In God’s divine will, we are all gifted with different roles in the kingdom of God. To one he gives the grace to sing beautiful melodies, to another he gives the grace to preach the good news with expressive language and tone, to another to provide financial resources bountifully to the church, and to another the working of miracles.

In 1 Peter 4:10-11 the bible speaks profoundly of the gift God has given us. “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever.”

We are called to be passionately strong with the gift we possess. If you see yourself good at preaching his word, embrace this gift and speak as one who utters the very oracles of God.

Use any gift you have in extreme degrees, so that in all things the glory of God would be seen in our lives. Matthew 5:16 affirms this: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” The light is letting the gift of God in us come out. God would be glorified in not only our lives, but in the lives of others as well.

They would see our deeds and be drawn to serve the Lord in spirit and in truth. The office of an apostle is different from the office of a prophet. So though we may manifest the gifts of God differently, the message is preached and God is glorified.

Let us pray to God to reveal to us the special office we have in him. With the conviction of the Holy Spirit, let us walk in the gifts and calling of God. Romans 11:29 says: “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” We only have to activate them, if they appear dormant in us.
